Soccer is a very common game that is played across the world. The most popular place that soccer is played is in Europe. In Europe people will live their life around the soccer team that they have fallowed their whole life. Over 80 thousand people will go and watch a soccer game in Europe. On the other had soccer in the United Stated is pathetic. Since the league was start in the late 90's it has lost over 350 million dollars. If this keeps up you wonder how much longer the league will stay. This past fall when the MLS championship game place there were only 22,000 people there. This is lame compared to Europe and other sports in America such as football. This years super bowl had over 85,000 people there, almost tripling the MLS championship game.
One thing that is helping the MLS right now is the arrival of David Beckham. He is one of the most popular soccer players in the world. He is the first big time star that has come to America to play soccer for the MLS. When David Beckham played in his first MLS game there was over 45,000 people at the game. This is double the number of how many people attented the championship game. I believe that every MLS team gets a star from Europe then there will be numbers like this at all of the soccer games. This is what I believe is the first step for the MLS to be more successful.
The last thing that I believe would make the MLS more successful was if celebrities would not endorse a team in Europe just because they want to go over there for free every once in a while. If they supported a team here in the states soccer would be much more popular. Someone would see a celebrity's wearing someones soccer jersey and that person would be like wow he is cool, and then they would go out and buy one of those jerseys. This is another thing that I believe would make the MLS more popular than it is now.
